It’s easy to switch to reusable baby wipes.
Baby wipes account for a huge amount of waste and did you know many contain plastic?! When you total up the number of wipes needed over approximately 2.5-3 years, swapping to reusable baby wipes is better for your wallet as well as the environment.
A little while back I swapped our disposable wipes for reusable baby wipes, and after hearing about Cheeky Wipes I decided to give them a go.
What do you get with Cheeky Wipes?
The delivery arrived with two containers – one for ”fresh’ and one for ‘mucky’ wipes, and 2 bottles of essential oils. I chose Lavender and Chamomile for the ‘fresh’ container and Tea Tree and Lemon for the ‘mucky’. Also included were 25 soft cloth wipes and a clean and a dirty bag for taking wipes out and about.
How do Cheeky Wipes work?
To set up the wipes you fill the ‘fresh’ container with water. Next, you add a few drops of the lavender essential oil and place the wipes in the container. You can put all 25 in, or like me just put half the amount. You then turn the wipes to allow them to soak up the water. In the ‘mucky’ container you insert your mesh bag, add water and a few drops of tea tree and lemon oil.
Once used, you put the dirty wipe in the ‘mucky’ container which is lined with the mesh washing bag. Every few days you remove the mesh bag with the wipes inside and throw them in the wash. They come out white and still soft to the touch. Clean wipes from the wash also don’t need to be dried and are ready to use, so they can go straight back into the fresh box.
I also found these wipes were a lot gentler on delicate baby skin and helped prevent nappy rash.
They are also much more effective than traditional baby wipes and can clean a dirty bum using just one wipe. I was worried about washing them being covered in poo, however, when you wipe most of the poo off with the nappy there’s only a little on the wipe. I also worried about them staining, however as they soak in water and oil straight after wiping, there’s no staining.
I love these . . . my only regret is not buying them for our first child!
Cheeky wipes also make reusable makeup remover pads, breast pads, reusable sanitary pads and period pants, and even toilet roll alternative kits.
